Vintage Moog Music - Lem - Machines

Here is a great 1977 recording from Lem that is quite rare in great condition. I love Funk albums that capture many Moog synth sounds and spin it in a Jazz sounding compilation. This lp doesnt disapoint. Titled "Machines". Alex Cima and Bryce Robbley composed the music. The record was a private release on Wavefront Records (the only release on this label). The machines were various electronic music making devices: synthesizers, vocoders, Syndrums, arpeggiators. Great stuff from this duo filled with talent! Great vintage sound!

The Fisher TX55 Amplifier

Here is a nice arrival. This Fisher amplifier packs, you guessed it, 55wpc and has a high mpx filter system on board. My initial demo with this Solid State unit sounded nice although I think it needed some run time to really open up. A very traditional yet sleek design.
Fisher had the market in the US from the late 50's through the 60's in domestic built HiFi. Their high end, well known and still revered today as a classic tube receiver - the Fisher 500c series is as good as you can find from the New York based manufacturer.
This series is difficult to find however can be a great value based on it's power and general performance. Stan Getz - Reflections (1962) is an incredible LP to spin into new gear!

Here is a great addition to your collection. Mirage is Jeff Conrad's solo project after leaving the LA band Big City Rock. This out of print and very rare is an audiophile eclectic pressing that presents Moog Synth fusion and Jazz for a great listening experience. Top shelf rare recording that's a pleasure to listen to. If you can find a clean copy add it!

I advanced Masked LP - Andy Summers/Robert Fripp

Here is one to add to your vinyl collection. Released in 1982 by the Police and King Crimson guitarists this progressive all guitar intstrumental album is a spectacular blend of the two talents. Very impressive recording that is a pleasure to hear over and over. One of two collaborative LP's they did together. Andy Summers and Robert Fripp. Vintage Sound!

Magnaeplanar Mini Maggies

Really? 3 way Ribbon speaker for your computer? Perhaps a vintage mini system would be a better fit with some true vintage output power...
No question that the innovation of the Maggies in the 70's set them at the top of this new speaker technology.
the original beasts

Mini Maggies

I don't know what to say...compressed digitized sound released to an innovative desktop ribbon tweeter technology. Isn't that like putting a Mercedes emblem on your Mazda??
I guess I will never really know as this analog reviewer won't be shelling $1300 a pair!

through the grill Ribbon
If any of the readers has an experience with these please post your comments. I love the company's vintage gear and by all accounts these house the technology that set them apart though the 70's and 80's gear.

Janszen ER139 Speaker update

Here is some important additional information. Also there is a comment posted from David Janszen - Son & President of A A. Janszen. We appreciate his comments greatly!
These Janszen units might possibly be the only 3-way prototype built prior to closing. Interesting and fascinating audio history and yes, true vintage sound!

The company only started delivering the 2-way systems when it closed and before it announced the 3-way was in production so I wonder if the blogger has a set of engineering samples or pre-production units.

Regardless, he has a VERY unique system as it was Art's last design and the tweeter was far different than his previous models plus so few made. I hope he continues to love them and maintains them as a guardian of a piece of history.

Vintage Vinyl Saturday - Brenda Holloway

Here I showcase this rare original pressing of Brenda Holloway, Every Little Bit Hurts LP. Released by Tamla Records 257, the first of Berry Gordy Jr's record companies. The second being non other than Motown records, named of course after it's home of Detroit, the Motor City. Released in 1964 this highly collectible LP features Brenda's mature vocals beyond her years. It's surprising that this super talent didn't reach mega star status.

Very cool Tamla label with the record and Globe.
Truly an incredibly well produced album with crisp detail and full vocals. An artist with great improvisational skills and a wonderful ability to weave through a song effortlessly.
If your starting a LP collection this is one not to miss!

Count Basie/Joe Turner - The Bosses

There are some LP's in my collection that stand out in both dynamics and performance. Vinyl is the main media that I listen to and when the recordings are responsive and the musicianship reach a level that separates it from others I must hear it over and over. True audiophile sound.
Here is a 74' recording of Count Basie and the traditional voice of Joe Turner. True "Bosses" of the early Jazz era that defined music still recorded and covered today. Basie's Piano voicing on this LP are brilliant and I'm blown away by the effortlessness sound of his licks. Vintage sound that only vinyl can reproduce. Recorded in the historical Pablo records Studio in California, you must pick this up to add to your collection of great vinyl. Of course try to find this original Pablo pressing. My favorite track is Since I feel for you. When a record is this poetic and warm it needs to be shared with all audiophiles!

Simonetta Transistor Vintage Radio

My passion for sharing is usually the late 60's through 80's components but I really enjoy acquiring interesting radios as well. I did a write-up on a nice vintage Sony radio back in August and had some great emails about it.

Just arrived is this great condition Simonetta built in 1969. These were German built with wave bands of broadcasts, short wave, long wave and also FM. The loudspeakers are moving coil and has an output of 0.9Watt. This unit is leather wrapped and has held up over time. The antenna configures quite differently as it stores horizontally and extends to a 3.5ft height. Crystal clear reception and great power. I need to locate another tuning knob but other than that it cleaned up to original condition beautifully.
Watch for another transistor gem coming in from Denmark...Yes a B&O!

Technics Sa-5370 Receiver

Newly arrived is this beautiful condition Technics SA-5370

This unit is 48 watt per channel silver face receiver with polished aluminum controls.
The inputs are AM/FM, tape 1, tape 2, aux, phono. Hi and Lo filters. FM muting/mono switch.
Center tuning and signal strength meters. Stereo lock red LED.
Connections and switching for two pairs of speakers. The speaker outputs are protected wth 4A fuses on back panel. This is again a classic Receiver that has the timeless vintage design with beautiful soft hue back lighting. Tons of clean power makes this a great vintage Receiver to drive your favorite classic speakers. I really enjoyed the response of this Tuner and with solid power and looks it's a top pick. The original ad is below as well. Enjoy!
